Sequel to a successful Cohort I of the Standardized Workshop on Electoral Procedures held in January 2023. We are pleased to announce the Cohort II Executive Forum on Electoral Procedures, scheduled for July 9 – 15, 2023, at Ubumwe Grande Hotel, Kigali, Rwanda. Theme: Code of Good Practice in Electoral Matters.
This forum on electoral procedures will bring together academics and practitioners to discuss current challenges of electoral integrity around the globe, with a focus on African countries, addressing questions such as:
- What role do elections play in this debate on democratic backsliding?
- What new challenges are elections facing?
- And highlighted the practical challenges of organizing elections.
OBJECTIVES
- Ensure stakeholders understand the scale and complexities of elections and the personal nature of the legal responsibilities they are taking on.
- Create awareness of key planning considerations and high-risk areas at elections, drawing on lessons from specific examples where things have gone wrong.
- Equip participants with an understanding of key election processes and how to adjudicate ballot papers which are not marked in line with voter instructions.
- Encourage discussion about quality-assuring the whole election process, including project and risk management.
- Explore key events in an election timetable and the work involved in running successful polls.
- Define the legal requirements governing election administration and the duties of the different Officers, among others.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The workshop is designed for electoral administrators who want to refresh their knowledge and exchange good practices, electoral staff, members of electoral commissions at all levels of election administration, Electoral Registration Officers, Returning Officers, members of commissions appointed by political parties, and other electoral stakeholders at all levels.
